Helpful savings tips

Use your rooftop solar or other private generation to help control your energy costs. Here are some smart ways to save.

  • Appliances: Use most of your energy during the daytime when your solar system is producing. When it’s not, run major appliances like the washer, dryer, dishwasher, and oven during off-peak hours.
  • EV charging: Charge your vehicle when your system is producing energy. Otherwise, charge overnight when energy prices from the grid are usually lower.
  • Cooling and heating: Set your thermostat to cool your home a few degrees lower before peak time-based hours begin. It's also helpful to turn your thermostat a few degrees higher during peak hours on weekdays. Tip: Smart thermostats can do this for you!

How billing and credits work with time-based rate plans

On our net metered time-based plans, any energy provided to you by Evergy will be billed at the peak, off-peak, or super off-peak pricing of the plan you choose. If you export more energy than you use in a time-based period, you will get a credit added to your bill.

Credits for extra energy: If your system exports back to Evergy more energy than Evergy has provided in a specific time-based period, we will credit you for the surplus based on Evergy’s average kilowatt-hour energy production costs for that given month.

Credit allocation: Credits are applied only to the peak, off-peak, or super off-peak timeframe for which you exported the extra energy. For example, a credit earned during the off-peak period won’t apply to energy usage used in the peak or super off-peak time periods.
