Default Time Based Plan

Default Time Based Plan

Default residential rate plan

All day, every day prices (with small differences between peak and off-peak times)

The Default Time Based Plan has the lowest difference in price between peak hours of 4-8 pm, and off-peak hours. This plan is not seasonal and applies all year. Customers who are able to shift a little of their large-appliance usage to off-peak hours can save on energy costs, but the difference in pricing between peak and off-peak is small.  Ver información en español.

Chart showing customers earn a .01 cent credit when using energy from 12-6 am but have an additional charge of .01 cent from 4-8 pm. Energy costs go up a tier with usage exceeding 600 kWh and again at 1000 kWh each mo (which is very easy to hit, in the summer especially)
Key showing first 600 kWh is cheapeast, next 400 takes you up a tier in price and over 1000 kWh takes you to the highest pricing in the summer

Customers get a set rate most of the day, plus earn bill discount credits for electricity used overnight. This plan has a small increase in price from 4-8 pm on energy every day, so minimizing heavy energy usage during the peak time-period will help reduce your bill.

Who is this plan for?
Customers who are not able to easily shift the time they use energy and are worried about the higher energy rates during the peak time-period from 4-8 pm.

Let's breakdown how time-based plans work:

Savings level
There’s less savings potential on this plan but also less need to shift energy usage into off-peak time periods.

How is this rate different?
The three other time-based rates have pricing that differs in the summer months and on weekdays versus weekends. This plan stays the same every day.

Avoid peak hours by spreading out energy use on weekdays

Energy use is at its highest between 4-8 pm (peak hours), which is why timing is everything when it comes to energy costs. Because we're able to match the cost you pay with actual costs to produce energy, you can save the most when you avoid peak times (because that's when energy production is at its highest, like a "rush hour").

Helpful saving tips

We want to offer helpful tips and savings information along the way. Here are some smart ways to save on this plan and make sure it fits with your lifestyle!

Laundry: Wash clothes on cold—they get just as clean and save energy. You can also run your dryer later in the evenings to avoid 4-8 pm peak prices.

Dishwashing: Run full loads and wait until peak hours end, or use the delay start setting to run it overnight.

Cooling: Set your thermostat to cool your home a few degrees lower before peak hours begin. It's also helpful to turn your thermostat a few degrees higher during peak hours on weekdays.
Tip: Smart thermostats can do this for you!

With this plan, we’ll email you weekly coaching reports to show how you’re doing (with even more saving tips). You can also view your online personalized energy management dashboard anytime for a deeper understanding of when your usage is highest and what uses the most energy in your home.
